Thread Lift

A serious surgical procedure that needs to be done under general anaesthetic, a facelift can require weeks of recovery and can also leave scars. With no hospitalisation required, a PDO thread lift is a great alternative to the facelift as it can be carried out in a sterile clinic situation under local anaesthetic.

During the mini-thread lift treatment, tiny needles are inserted into the skin. These needles contain threads which remain in the skin after the needle is removed. Functioning as scaffolding, the threads counteract the effects of ageing. A “mesh” or network of threads collectively tightens loose or sagging skin. The thread lift procedure effectively treats a number of areas including under-eye bags, smokers’ lines, jowls, double chins, jawlines and necks.

Made from polydioxanone (PDO), threads are very safe. Often used in heart surgery, this material has no side effects and does not result in allergic reactions or rejections. The results of the mini-thread lift are apparent for 12 to 24 months even though the threads dissolve naturally into water and carbon dioxide in six to eight months.

Fluid retention along with the tension caused by the threads immediately results in visibly-lifted skin. A more remarkable result is apparent six to eight weeks after the treatment as the threads begin to stimulate the production of collagen and fibroblasts and increase the skin’s oxygen supply. As the skin takes on a tauter and more youthful look, wrinkles, lines and pores all appear reduced.

One hour before the thread lift procedure, a strong anaesthetic cream is applied topically to the area of treatment, and this helps to reduce any discomfort. Similar to an acupuncture treatment, the sensation is described as a slight sting.

With 50 to 70 threads used in the treatment of the entire face, the thread lift typically takes between 40 and 60 minutes. Conveniently, the patient can resume daily activities such as driving straight after the procedure. Bruising is common and depending on the individual, a recovery period of three to seven days is typical. Conveniently, make-up can also be applied just after the thread lift treatment.

Prices include a review as well as a top-up appointment six to eight weeks after initial treatment.
